Redditch Film Roadshow

In advance of the ultra exciting finale to the counties very first film festival, we got a bit over excited, we couldn’t’ wait for November and so we’ve decided to bring the Film Festival to YOU.

We’re still having the finale of the festival in November but in the meantime we will be running road shows in different parts of the county starting in Redditch.

Redditch Film Roadshow

When: 7th July 2012, 3pm

Where: Palace Theatre, Redditch, Worcestershire

Do You Remember:

The Gaumont on Church Road or maybe the ABC on Unicorn Hill?

The Palace as the Palace Super Cinema?

Maybe you or someone you know worked in these places.  We would like to invite people who have memories of the old cinemas in the Redditch area and incorporate them into our cinema heritage project by recording them talk and taking photos of any clippings or items.

Over the next few months we will let you know of other forthcoming events.

Don’t forget  - November 2nd to the 4th is the Festival Finale incorporating the WOSCAR award ceremony for the best local films.

Last Chance to See the Worcestershire Cinema Through The Ages Exhibition

To date we’ve had over 4,000 people visit our exhibition at Worcester City Art Gallery. That’s enough people to feature in a Cecile B. DeMille film!

For those who haven’t heard about the exhibition, a quick recap:

Worcestershire Film Festival (worcsff) in partnership with Worcester City Art Gallery are this winter taking us back through the Ages of Cinema by way of a unique exhibition dedicated to the history of the Picture House.

Cinema and film are to many people as sacred and beautiful as the finest works of art and the majestic temples that house them.

This FREE exhibition takes the visitor on a journey of discovery and rediscovery to the cinemas of the last 100 years and their impact upon culture, art and society.

Curator of the exhibition and Director of the Worcestershire Film Festival, Simon Munn:

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people who have supported the exhibition either through visiting it or by contributing to its development and running”

“Cinemas are not just places where you go to see a flick. They hold meaning and memories for many millions of people.”

“Unfortunately many of our cinemas have been forgotten to make way for the multiplex. This exhibition not only highlights a bygone age but also emphasises the need to protect those traditional pictures houses that still stand today.”

And the ‘WOSCAR’ for Best Film Goes To…

Worcestershire Film Festival Launches First Countywide Film Competition

Worcestershire Film Festival, the county’s first ever celebration of film, not content with the recent BAFTA’s and forthcoming Oscar’s has decided to put together its own film competition just for the people of Worcestershire.

worcsff is looking for filmmakers of all ages and experience to enter the competition, which closes on the 15th September 2012.

The rules are simple

Step 1:  Make a film or enter a film you’ve already made

Step 2:  Ensure it’s about something! Tell us a story. It could be anything  - we’re hoping to receive entries that cover a wide range of genres and themes. However its must have been locally produced in Worcestershire UK!

Step 3: Make sure it’s your own work! All films submitted must be original works

Step 4: Fill in the submission form at www.worcestershirefilmfestival.co.uk/submissions and send it with your film (on a DVD) to Worcestershire Film Festival no later than the 15th September 2012

Step 5: Sit back in a local cinema (to be announced) and munch on some popcorn whilst the audience picks a winner! (Hopefully You)

Worcestershire Film Festival (worcsff) Director, Simon Munn:

‘Filmmaking is a bit of an underground art and whilst the Internet helps, locally produced films are seldom seen at a public screening.  The aim of the Film Festival is to change that and place filmmaking on an equal platform with music, dance, literature, painting and other arts.

When asked how the awards compare to the Oscars, he said:

“Remember, Worcestershire had a Hollywood before California did”.

First Countywide Film Festival and Independent Cinema Survey Announced

Think of movies and Worcestershire may not be the first place you think of. But that’s all set to change in 2012, when the county gets its very first film Festival.

Why Worcestershire?

Because Worcestershire and the surrounding area has a lot of local film making talent ready and raring to show the world that it can take on Hollywood.

Festival Director, Simon Munn said:

“Locally we have so much untapped filmmaking talent that just needs the opportunity to show their community and the wider world how much they have to offer”

“We want this festival to not just showcase local work but also to ignite the interest of the local people about independent cinema. There is no denying that most of us love seeing blockbuster movies. But there is so much that cinema has to offer, and we are really excited about opening up a whole new world of independent cinema to a wider audience”

How Do I Get Involved Now?

Before the festival actually begins there will be a number of ways that members of the public can get involved including:

WFF have just launched an Independent Cinema Survey. This research aims to understand the public’s views on independent cinema and the choices they make when watching films.

To access the survey please visit http://worcestershirefilmfestival.co.uk/survey

Short film competition

Photo exhibition

Heritage project ‘Worcester Cinema Through The Ages’
